A gift given, A gift taken collection of poems ~ Plus
Juliet Barriffe

This book takes on different categories and topics in its poetic form. It is a book of poems, plus short stories, that reflect my thoughts on love, nature, and desires. Within it, there is that ever presence of the Creator.
Our lives have a story that will come alive with one’s imagination. I dream and imagine a world of love, beauty, peace, and hope. My hope is that one day there will be no more struggles. I also hope that those deemed unimportant will be able to sit amongst the honored ones. Imperfect though this world may be, there is room for acceptance of others, their weaknesses, discouragements, and their indifferences.
I would like to believe that those who may get caught up in a melancholy mood and fear will find that one poem in this book that will shine a light within that person’s heart and will give them some hope. The hope of smiling, dreaming, and loving again, or even the hope of getting connected with the Savior.
I have considered myself an introvert. I am a behind-the-scene person that uses her imagination. This book is an introduction to my dreams, my world of imagination, and the realness of the Savior.

Synopsis of My Moon, My Light
As we journey through life, the decisions we make can have an impact on our destinations. We have choice because we are allowed free will by our Lord and King, the Creator of all things. He has all control of directing our every being to His will; however, He has not done so, instead He lets us decide what path we will take. And therefore, we have the freedom to choose that which is good or that which is not acceptable in the sight of Him. Many have exercised their freedom of choice of either being rebellious or by acknowledging that there is a more conscious and pleasant way of going through life by embracing compassion and empathetic ways. Having love does not mean that all things are perfect, but with a heart of love, beauty is imbedded within the heart and one’s outlook on nature, people, and things within the world becomes more embracing. Why hate when it allows confusion and conflicts one’s state of mind to a harden heart? I have seen beauty, but I am also aware that ugliness is mixed within. Just as the tares are mixed with the wheat, a separation will take place eventually at the time of harvest. Why wait for the harvest for the separation to take place? We can begin now to be separated from among the ones that are stubborn and rebellious. Right at this moment, we can accept the beauty that the Savior will give to us for our ashes of hate and whatever else that is keeping us from the beauty of being redeemed. My choice in life have taken me to many different directions but finally ended up with the Savior as my all in all.
Excerpts:
“Demonstrate to me the meaning of your love, show me your love by taking my hand and leading me. Make me believe you are strong. Embrace me when emotions speak to you with an uncertain tone; nurture me with words of confidence and strength.” (Page 38)
“I thank you, Lord for all that you have been giving me – – the love I have possessed to conquer all that came against me, the strength to worship and adore you, the power to put the devil behind me. I thank you, Lord, that I can live ever thereafter for the promise of eternal life you have given when you died to set us free.” (Page 16)
“Yes! I did, didn’t I; however, I did not just remain in place and mourned my sorrows; I remained to get motivated and built myself up. You were certain that you had the upper hand on me, that you didn’t notice the changes taking place around you. My returning to college was me setting the pace between you and me. Your phone conversation opened my eyes to your plot of buying time with me until your chosen wife-to-be finished with her studied. Therefore, armed with such knowledge, I concluded that if I continue with my studies, I will benefit from accomplishing my dream of being a nurse practitioner and you will be deprived of your bed warmer. And just as I predicted, goodbye would not fall short of being presented; but what you did not realize is that I had left you long before you said it.” (Page 106)
